HE’E Planning Meeting Tuesday, April 12, 2016, 9:00-11:00 am, The Learning Coalition, 841 Bishop Street #301 (Validated Parking at Ali’i Place, 1099 Alakea Street)
Please join us for a event filled Planning Meeting, which will be broken up into two parts:
From 9:00-10:00 we will review a HE’E Presentation to be given to the Board of Education at their April 19 General Business Meeting. The BOE has asked that HE’E give a presentation to the Board of Education Members to introduce who we are and what we do. While HE’E has been attending and advocating at the BOE, some of the new members are not familiar with the Coalition. We encourage members to come and proudly represent HE’E!
From 10:00-11:00am, we are pleased to have the Hawaii Department of Education join us to host a discussion and focus group about the upcoming BOE/DOE Strategic Plan.
Here is a short description of the DOE’s presentation:
The Joint Board of Education and Department of Education Strategic Plan Review and Extension
The current BOE/DOE Strategic Plan was initially drafted in 2012. Since then there have been various changes from community context, new BOE policies in place, completion of the Race to the Top initiative with Common Core implementation largely complete, and new federal law introduced, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). On January 19, 2016, the Board of Education approved a review and extension of the strategic plan to guide the next few years. In the spirit and practice of an approach of continuous improvement, the review and extension retains the 2012 update’s goals and framework for improvement as a strong continuing foundation for educational improvement. This session will include a dialogue about student success and aspirations, and a discussion on how to improve and update the Strategic Plan to best support Hawaii’s students.

We will be sending an invitation shortly to this event to track the number of participants. Ideally, we would like to have at least 15 people for the focus group with HIDOE. Please join us for the engaging conversation!
